Part Black Friday vibe, part Amazon hype and 100% amazing deals, Amazon's Prime Day is an annual celebration of crazy low prices on over a million items across the site. This will be the fourth year for the event, which began in 2015 as part of Amazon's 20th anniversary celebration. In 2019, Prime Day stretches over two days — July 15th and 16th — for a full 48 hours of deal access. Prime Day watchers can expect to see deeply slashed prices on Amazon-specific devices like the Alexa-powered Amazon Echo speaker and the company's super-popular e-reader, the Kindle.
Is Amazon Prime Day Free for Everyone?
As the name suggests, you'll need an Amazon Prime membership to take advantage of the deals being offered on the site, though some "Pre-Prime Day Deals" are available to all. In 2019, a Prime Membership costs $119 if purchased annually, or $12.99 if you elect to pay monthly. If you're a student at a college with an .edu email address, you can sign up for Prime at $59 a year or $6.99 a month. Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients can purchase a membership for only $5.99 a month.
The most well-known benefit to getting a Prime membership — Prime Day deals aside, of course — is the free shipping. Millions of items across the Amazon site — clothes, shoes, housewares, linens, food, health and beauty, toys and more — receive free two day shipping because they're Prime-eligible. There are even parameters in the on-site search that allow users to filter the results to Prime-only items to save money on shipping costs. As a member, you can also get discounts on expedited delivery options if you need your items sooner.
Amazon Prime Day 2019 deals look like they're going to be the most sensational the company's ever offered, so be sure not to miss them!
